Police have released an image of a man they want to speak to following an assault in Yeovil. A man was attacked by a group outside a kebab shop in Stars Lane at around 11:30pm on Friday, July 17th. He was taken to hospital and later discharged. The man police want to speak to is white, aged 18 to 25, and was wearing a black T-shirt, dark trousers and white shoes. The image of the man can be viewed on the Avon and Somerset Police website. Anyone with information should call 101.

Businesses in Taunton say they're worried that planned changes to parking rules could put people off visiting the town. Somerset Council wants to bring in parking charges seven days a week in all its car parks as well as increase the price. It says it needs to ensure a consistent charging structure across the county after inheriting a range of different charging regimes following the collapse of district councils.

A planning inquiry has started to try and stop 125 homes being built in the village of Trull near Taunton. The plans were rejected earlier this year but the developer appealed saying 25 percent would be affordable homes. Local people have raised £27,000 to pay for a barrister to represent them at the inquiry.

A Somerset councillor is to take a leave of absence to recover from surgery. Councillor Lucy Trimnell who represents Wincanton and Bruton on Somerset Council has been granted a 6-month absence to recover at home and won’t have to attend any meetings in person until the end of February next year.

The Red Arrows will take to the skies near the Somerset border in a one-off display later this week. The world-famous RAF aerobatic team will perform a flypast in front of Longleat House this Friday during the Icons of the Sky event, part of Longleat's 60th anniversary celebrations.

Dog lovers are being invited to the Ham Hill Fun Dog Show this Sunday. The event at Ham Hill Country Park features ten dog show classes, the Ham Hill Challenge and Best in Show competition. Gates open at 10.30am.
