Work’s finally started on improving Yeovil town centre. The Yeovil Refresh project which is running about a year behind schedule will see Westminster Street partially pedestrianized, wider pavements and tree planting in the High Street, and a public performance space created in Lower Middle Street.

The director of public health in Somerset, Trudi Grant, says schools with high numbers of coronavirus cases are struggling to cope. More than 40 schools in Somerset have been forced into re-introducing Covid restrictions, including face coverings. Some schools have moved to home learning.

A new Indian takeaway could soon open in Yeovil. Metro Kitchen has applied for a change of use to turn 67 Princes Street into a food outlet. It would join a number of other takeaways on Princes Street, including The Rising Sun and Magic Spice.

A Langport man has completed a coast-to-coast charity walk for an outdoor equine-assisted learning centre near Ilminster. Shaun Murphy and his friend Andy McMillan walked the 100-miles between St Bees in Cumbria and Robin Hood's Bay on the East Coast raising just under £2,000 for EAQ Manor Farm at Stocklinch where his daughter Ella, who suffers from Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, for provided with horse therapy.

Chard Carnival takes place tomorrow night but without the usual display of illuminated floats. Due to clubs not having the funds to build new floats because of Covid, a Celebration of Carnival Parade will be held instead, starting in the High Street at 7 pm, tomorrow.
