    The A30 High Street in West Coker remains shut to traffic in both directions today as work continues to repair a burst water main. It happened on Saturday with the A30 staying closed over the weekend. Wessex Water says the repairs will take until the end of the week to complete. Diversions are in operation.

    Eight candidates have been confirmed as standing in the Somerton and Frome by-election to be held on Thursday, July 20th. The by-election follows the resignation of David Warburton who had held the seat for the Conservatives since 2015. 

    Women in Somerset are being urged to take advantage of free cervical screening on the NHS following figures showing a third of all women still ignore reminders. Cervical cancer remains the second most common type of cancer affecting women under the age of thirty-five. 

    People in Somerset are being encouraged to grow fruit and vegetables in wildlife-friendly gardens as part of the King's Coronation Gardens Scheme. The project is a partnership between the Wildlife Trust, Women's Institute, and the gardening group, Incredible Edible.

    Yeovil Town Football Club has sent condolences to the family of former director Alan Chamberlain who died at the age of 78. Mr Chamberlain was also a trustee of the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust but left both his roles when Scott Priestnall bought the club in 2019.

    A new charity’s been launched to raise funds for the NHS in Somerset. It follows the merger of Yeovil Hospital with Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton and the creation of Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. The new charity has been named as the Somerset NHS Charity.
