    Yeovil MP Marcus Fysh says the experience of a family member needing treatment for a stroke has made him realise the importance of keeping open the stroke unit at Yeovil Hospital. The Yeovil unit is under threat of closure with Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton taking over the services it provides. Eight thousand names have been added to a petition calling on NHS Somerset to abandon the plan. Marcus Fysh is urging anyone yet to show their support for the Yeovil stroke unit to do so,

    Teachers in Somerset belonging to the National Education Union are due to strike again tomorrow. It'll be the sixth time this year that teachers in Somerset have walked out in their long-running dispute over pay. The government is offering teachers a one-off payment of £1,000 and a pay rise of 4.3%  but the NEU has rejected the offer. 

    Six million pounds is being spent upgrading a water treatment plant at Hardington Mandeville. Wessex Water says once the plant has been fitted with new equipment, discharges of untreated water from the sewer system following heavy storms will be minimised, together with the removal of chemicals from wastewater. 

    The A3088 Cartgate Link Road in Yeovil will be shut to traffic overnight all next week. Somerset Council says from Monday the road will close at 7 pm and re-open at 7 am the following morning for the drainage system to be cleaned.

    Somerset’s Homeless and Rough Sleeper Nursing Service has won first prize at the NHS Parliamentary Awards held in London to coincide with yesterday’s NHS seventy-fifth anniversary. The service, run by NHS Somerset, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, Somerset Council, and the voluntary sector, was voted overall winner in the Health Equalities category for delivering the Homelessness Health in Somerset initiative.
