Yeovil's MP Marcus Fysh has joined calls for all lockdown restrictions to be removed before May. He’s one of a group of Conservative backbenchers wanting the government to relax some rules sooner following good progress with the Covid vaccine rollout. Mr Fysh says if the aim of vaccinating people aged over 50 by May is achieved, then the restrictions should end.

This week is the last chance for people to comment on planned major changes to the education system in Ilminster and Crewkerne. Under the proposals, the current system of first, middle and upper schools would end and be replaced with a flatter two-tier system of primary and secondary schools. It would mean that Merriott First School, Haselbury Plucknett Church of England First School, Ashlands Church of England First School, St Bartholomew’s Church of England First School would become primary schools. And, Wadham School in Crewkerne a secondary school, teaching children aged 11-19 instead of 13-19. Somerset County Council is due to make a final decision on the proposed changes at a meeting on March 17th.

The building and grounds used for The Park School at Chilton Cantelo have been sold for just under 2-million pounds. The Grade 11 listed 18th century manor house and 17-acres have been bought by a local buyer. It’s understood money from the sale will be used to pay-off debts from when The Park School closed last year.

More financial support is needed for outdoor learning centres. Mill-on-the-Brue in Bruton hasn't been able to provide overnight trips for primary school children since last March. Owner, Tricia Rawlingson Plan, says that without government help they can’t go on much longer.
