Plans have been approved to build thirty-five new homes at Broadway near Ilminster. The houses will be built on land off The Pound of which twelve of the units will be ‘affordable’.  The developer had earlier applied to build forty-five homes on the site but changed that to thirty-five after the original plans were rejected.

Milford Junior School in Yeovil has been rated as ‘good’ following an Ofsted inspection. Ofsted praised the school for encouraging inclusivity and for working with the Police to instill civic pride in students.

Police are trying to find a man in connection with alleged shoplifting incidents in Ilminster and Langport. Henry Price, aged 49-years, is described as white, 5ft 7ins tall, with dark hair, brown eyes, and stubble. If you see Price or know of his whereabouts you’re asked to please call 999.

Ilminster Town Council is looking into what it can do to retain face-to-face banking in the town. It follows the announcement that Ilminster’s only remaining bank, Lloyd Bank on Silver Street, is to close. The Council says it will cause distress to local people who don’t use online banking and they will be looking to see what measures it can take to ensure face-to-face banking continues in the town.

Works starts this Wednesday on a major up-grade of gas pipes in Somerton. Wales and West Utilities are warning of major disruption in West Street from the middle of the week onwards. They say barring any engineering difficulties, the work should be completed sometime in April

Access to the Herne Hill in Ilminster is to be improved as part of plans to build a new housing scheme on neighbouring land. Persimmon Homes has been given outline permission to build three hundred and sixty homes on land between Canal Way and the nature reserve. The developer is offering to upgrade the footpath from Canal Way leading up to the nature reserve and provide a public open space between the woods and the new homes.
