The UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow heat health alert for the South West. It’s predicted that temperatures could rise as high as 33C in parts of Somerset this Saturday, and whilst other areas may be less affected, the Met Office predicts heatwave conditions for many throughout the weekend. The warning is already in effect and will remain so until Monday. Health and social care services may face significant challenges due to the expected high temperatures in the coming days.
A former Cherry Farm in Chard has donated the netting and high-tensile wires from its former farming operation to Somerset Aid for Ukraine. The donation will contribute to drone and bomb defences in the country.
Somerset Council is moving forward with its next phase of plans for the county, promising further transformation to protect public services. Titled ‘Inspiring Innovation’, the project continues its focus on residents and communities, aiming for financial stability, improving service delivery and responsiveness, whilst reducing operational costs and inefficiencies. The Council says it will redesign services around local people, voluntary groups, and public services – and also continue to lobby the Government for what it describes as a fairer system to provide essential services to vulnerable adults and children.
And staff at Yeovil’s Brimsmore Gardens have been joined by local MP, Adam Dance, to sow the seeds of a more sustainable future.
