Yeovil MP Adam Dance is calling for stronger preventative measures to stop sewage discharges into local waterways. It follows figures showing that Wessex Water discharged raw sewage into rivers in the Yeovil area on 1,940 occasions in 2024. Mr Dance says immediate enforcement is needed to stop companies like Wessex Water operating with impunity. Meanwhile, Wessex Water has welcomed legislation banning the sale of wet wipes containing plastic. Water companies have long warned that flushed wipes are a major cause of sewer blockages.
