Police are appealing for witnesses to a lorry being driven dangerously in Yeovil. The white seven-and-a-half tonne vehicle collided with a lamp post, hit traffic cones and various kerbs on the A303, on Thorne Lane and Western Avenue in Yeovil before heading out of the town on the A37 to Ilchester between 6.15 and 6.45 on the morning of Friday, August 18th. The FBI has returned stolen items, belonging to the World War Two code-breaker Alan Turing, to his former school in Sherborne. They were taken by a woman posing as Turing’s daughter in 1984. The items include a letter from King George the Sixth and will be made available for public viewing at Sherborne School.
Sherborne Abbey is to provide worshippers with a toilet for the first time in the Abbey’s twelve-hundred-year history. The vestries on the first and second floor will be converted into two public conveniences with a new vestry created under the organ loft. Other improvements include a hospitality area within the Lady Chapel area together with improved wheelchair access throughout the Abbey.
