South Western Railway is asking passengers not to use the alarm button on trains unless it’s an absolute emergency. It follows an incident in which a passenger rang the alarm because they’d left their luggage on the platform. A protest to stop a giant oak tree being felled at Sparkford has entered its second week. Campaigners moved onto the site earlier this month claiming the tree is ancient and should be kept.
