The Unite union has announced four days of strikes by its members at Leonardo in Yeovil. The walkouts are due to take place on November 5th and 6th and again on November 12th and 13th. Around 3,000 employees at all other Leonardo sites across the UK will stop work on the exact dates. The strikes follow a ballot in which Unite members rejected a 3.2% pay rise.  Leonardo says it's working to mitigate any disruption the strikes may cause to its customers.

One of Yeovil’s busiest roads is closed to traffic today and will stay shut for the next two weeks. A 380-meter stretch of the eastbound carriageway of Reckleford, between the junctions with Goldcroft and Sherborne Road, has been closed to allow significant drainage improvements. The closure will remain in place until November 8th, with divers asked to follow the alternative routes provided.

The Liberal Democrats have won two by-elections for seats on Somerset Council, with Reform coming second in both polls. Cara Strom won Dunster for the Lib Dems with 1,142 votes, while Ewan Cameron took Glastonbury with 882 votes. Turnout was thirty per cent, with Labour coming last in both by-elections.

Plans have been submitted to build 12 new homes in Chard. The development, consisting of 12 two-bedroom houses, will be built on land off Jarman Way in Chard.

Staff at the Ferne Animal Sanctuary near Chard raised £3,000 taking part in a Sleeping Ruff challenge at the weekend. They spent one night bedded down in the kennels, experiencing what life is like for the dogs they care for.
