Somerset Council say last week’s Yeovil Dunelm fire won’t impact the Glovers Walk regeneration. Plans are in place to demolish the vacant shopping centre and whilst the blaze occurred next to the building, the structure has not been affected and there will be no unexpected additional cost to the demolition work as a result.

A Government review of defence and the armed forces could delay the decision on a defence contract that would benefit Yeovil-based Leonardo Helicopters. Leonardo say they're confident they will secure the contract - worth one billion pounds - but Mark Laity, a former BBC defence correspondent and ex-NATO official says it's not clearcut.

It’s been announced that the Yeovil & District Business Awards are returning for 2024. The event which celebrates the outstanding achievements of business and individuals across the area aims to recognise the creativity, dedication and spirit of entrepreneurship and adaptability in the region. This year’s awards will see a new category of ‘Armed Forces/Veterans Award’, honouring the social value brought by those who have served in the Armed Forces.

And Longleat Safari Park have announced the passing of Jessie, the tapir, at the grand old age of 28. The popular pig-like animal at the park was a great, great grandmother with her descendants living across a number of European countries as part of an international breeding programme. The staff say she will be greatly missed.
