Somerset Council is assuring residents that affordable homes built in the county will be given to people with a ‘local connection’ to the area. The Council has been working with housing developers and stresses that contrary to some social media speculation, refugees or asylum seekers do not ‘jump the queue’ when properties become available, and anyone with UK citizenship who has recently moved to the county is not automatically treated as a higher priority.
Emergency services were called to a single vehicle collision involving a Royal Mail van at the weekend. The vehicle crashed and landed on its side in Somerton on Sunday. Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue crews from Somerton and Martock were despatched to the scene, at the request of the South Western Ambulance Service.
