Somerset Council says Hendford Hill in Yeovil should be fully reopened to traffic by the end of May. The road was closed in one direction northbound six weeks ago following a landslip. Somerset Council says work is ongoing to clear vegetation at the roadside, with concrete barriers being installed at the bottom of the slope to stop debris falling onto the highway.

Plans have been approved to build 40 new homes in Crewkerne. The development, on the former Millers Garage site on East Street, includes 67 parking spaces. Under the proposals, the existing junction onto the A30 will be widened, providing improved access for residents of Wyvern Court and occupants of the new housing scheme.

The government is being asked to subsidise fuel costs for homecare workers. Home Instead in Somerset, a company that provides care for older and disabled people at home, says that because of the nature of the work they carry out, homecare workers should be helped with their fuel costs, which have spiked due to the Iran war.

Council leaders in the South West are calling for major changes in the way local authorities are funded to provide adult social care. It follows data showing that half the income received by councils is spent providing care for elderly and disabled people.

A road in Yeovil will close to traffic for three days next week. Parcroft Gardens, off Preston Road, will be shut from Tuesday, May 5, to Thursday, May 7, for Openreach to carry out repairs.

The NHS in Somerset is looking for volunteers to act as appointment reminder callers. The role involves ringing patients ahead of surgery to check their availability before an operation. Positions are available at both Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton and Yeovil Hospital.

A huge pile of illegally dumped rubbish in Glastonbury has been cleared. Around 40 people volunteered to remove the waste, which had been dumped in a disused car park on the outskirts of the town. Local people also raised £1,500 to hire a digger and skip to take the rubbish away
